The Power District Transportation Study is a collaborative analysis of transportation options in and around the Power District in Salt Lake City, a nearly 100-acre site situated near the Utah State Fairpark and Jordan River in Salt Lake City. The Study was a joint effort by the Wasatch Front Regional Council (WFRC), Salt Lake City, the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT), Utah Transit Authority (UTA), Utah State Fairpark, and Larry H. Miller Real Estate, and was completed in August 2025.
The Power District is an area of strategic importance that could accommodate a significant amount of both housing and economic growth. The Power District development will include new retail, residential, and office space. The Power District is also the proposed location for a potential Major League Baseball (MLB) stadium. Improvements to major roadways, transit routes, and trails will play a critical role in supporting the Power District’s potential.
The Power District Transportation Study evaluated various technical solutions while considering the needs and priorities of the existing residents and community as well as the area’s future economic and transportation conditions. The study will be used to guide decisions of the area.

The Power District Transportation Study identified improvements to roadways, transit services, and bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, that:
The Power District is roughly bounded by Redwood Road, I-80, North Temple, and 1000 West. The study area for the Power District Transportation Study encompassed the Power District and an approximately one-mile radius surrounding the TRAX Power Station. The Power District study area is situated between the Salt Lake City International Airport and downtown Salt Lake City. The District is served by three major interstates (I-80, I-15, I-215). Major corridors within the study area include Redwood Road, 900 West, North Temple, I-80, I-15, 600 North/700 North, 200 South, and 400 South. UTA’s light rail system, TRAX, runs along the Power District site and includes two stations. The FrontRunner North Temple Station and multiple bus routes are located nearby or within the study area. Additionally, the study area extended approximately one mile surrounding the Power District boundaries.

The Utah State Legislature passed H.B. 562, the Fairpark Area Investment and Restoration District (U-FAIR), on February 28, 2024. This bill focuses on revitalizing Salt Lake City’s westside, enhancing the Jordan River, and improving the State Fairpark. It also lays the groundwork for building a Major League Baseball stadium in the 100-acre Power District. A district board will manage the growth in tax increments and sales within the zone, using these funds to finance needed improvements.
The Power District Transportation Study was completed in August 2025. The study drew on numerous earlier community engagement efforts, and WFRC and project partners incorporated public comments about improving transportation options and mobility within the study area into the completed study. These comments informed decisions made by WFRC, Salt Lake City, UDOT, and UTA related to potential transportation improvements. There will be further opportunity for comment through the WE Connect study led by Salt Lake City.
